This course assumes a basic knowledge of safeguarding. The course then focuses on safeguarding issues which are most likely to arise specifically in the wraparound sector. This includes a consideration of the challenges of information sharing with schools and other partners, play based environments, and working with older children. Learning is consolidated by use of a quiz and responses to case studies. The 6 interactive modules relate basic safeguarding to the wraparound sector specifically:

Learn how to create welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environments for all children. This course explores practical strategies to support children with additional needs, reduce barriers to participation, and promote a sense of belonging in your setting.
This course includes 6 interactive modules covering;
- Defining Inclusion: Understanding what it truly means (and what it doesn’t).
- Developing an Enabling Environment
- Understanding Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their impact on children and young people.
- Amplifying the Voice of the Child.
- Working in Partnership: Collaborating Effectively to Support Children and Young People with SEND.

This course was developed in response to the high level of demand from those who completed our other training, and it’s designed to empower all wraparound staff — whether paid or voluntary — to confidently understand and support children and young people’s behaviour particularly focusing on what motivates different behaviours.
The course modules are:

This course has been co-produced with wraparound providers. Staff and volunteers from across the sector were directly involved in shaping the content, sharing real-life experiences, and offering practical ideas that genuinely work in busy wraparound settings.
The course looks at how good play – including managed risk – supports children’s development.
The course modules are:
- What is Play and Why is it Important?
- The Role of Staff and Volunteers in a High-Quality Play Environment
- Balancing Safety and Risk in Play
- Play in the Wraparound Sector – Challenges and Solutions
- Ideas for Resourcing Amazing Play Opportunities

The course takes the trainee on a journey of reconsidering what it is they aim to do and how they weave inclusion throughout a business planning process. Business planning for inclusion also involves thinking about supply and demand in an area, and what percentage of children with SEND are actually likely to need additional support, well as where responsibility for inclusion rests and how it can be successfully shared.
A series of examples from our work with other providers nationally are shared throughout to keep the session ‘real’. Each 2 hour course delivered twice a term (one day time and one evening) covers ten steps to business planning success.
