Module 1: What does it mean to feel included?
So during this course we will look at:
- What is meant by inclusion and what barriers might be faced by children and young people with disabilities.
- Understanding the range of SEND and their impact on children and young people accessing wraparound care.
- Developing practical strategies to foster inclusion for children and young people with additional needs.
- How to gather and share information that can contribute to planning for inclusion.
- Practical ways to create a safe and supportive environment that meets the individual needs of children with SEND.
Note: You will have noticed that we have already used the terms special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) , additional needs and children with disabilities. Different settings use different terms to refer to children who have disabilities or additional needs. We are going to consistently used the language of the Equalities Act (2010) and refer to children with disabilities but of course you will use the terms your setting prefers. In the same way, we will talk about children in the training. in this context, children are aged up to 18 so of course includes young people.
In this module we are going to think about :
- What is meant by inclusion,
- What makes us and others feel included or excluded,
- Developing an awareness of the barriers faced by children and young people with disabilities who might want to access wraparound provision.
