Every blue button in the course is an action button – click these to submit answers or to move through the course. Examples are:

The Check button is clicked to submit your answers to a question – the system will check whether your answer is Correct or Incorrect and may provide some information to explain why this is so, depending on the settings in the question.

The Start Step button is clicked to move into a new section of the training.

Each aspect of the course is designed in the same way and some of the buttons are there to ensure that your course progress is recorded by the system. if you get confused at any point just look for a blue button. This will be the next action that you need to take to move forward through the course.

The courses use three main structural items:

Questions: each Step includes a least one question to either check your understanding of Step content, to encourage you to think around the subject, or to confirm an action.

Modules: each course is broken down into Modules, which cover related topics. Each module includes a listing of the various things that will be covered in that Module. You can take a break from the course after you finish any Module.

Steps: each module is broken down into Steps. These provide a logical progression through each module.

When you complete a Step or a question you will see the following message:

This process is the system writing your results to the database. This is so that your progress is remembered should you decide to stop the course part way through.

You will also see the following options at the end of each Step:

• The View Questions button lets you see the questions you have just answered and your results for these.
• The Restart Step button lets you start the previous Step again should you want to try again.
• Click Here to Continue moves you forward to the next stage of the course.

The way to do this is to use the Course navigation options. The example below from the Safeguarding course will show you the easiest way to do this.

The system will remember all your progress up to the last Module that you finished. If after completing a Module you leave the site and then log back in later you will be returned to your course dashboard. If you scroll down the dashboard page you will see your courses listed. Courses that you have started will have a blue ‘In progress’ button next to them and a downwards pointing round button: as shown…

Click the name of the course that you want to continue. In this example you would click the text ‘Safeguarding in Wraparound Settings’.

You will then be taken to the start of the course that you want to continue with. Scroll down and you will see a map of your course progress so far:

The round teal-coloured icon with a white tick shows you which Modules have been completed. In this example Module 1 is complete. This means that you now know that your next Module is Module 2. Click the Module title and you can then carry on where you left off…

Wraparound refers to the government funded scheme to support before and after schools care which supports families to work and children to have great experiences outside of school. However we consider the sector to be anyone caring for school age children outside of the school day (remembering children are aged up to 18 when we talk about children and young people with disabilities and safeguarding).  Out of school providers could be for example;

• Breakfast clubs run at a school or off the premises 
• After school clubs run at a school or off the premises 
• Holiday Clubs
• Leisure, outdoor or creative activities delivering Holiday Activity and Food sessions (HAF)
• Short Breaks provision
• Services offered by childminders
• Informal clubs and groups which meet after school and are not part of the school provision which may include faith based activities 

Out of School Activities could be run by a number of different providers for example private owners, charities, childminders, schools, voluntary groups etc, and often meet a number of family needs as well as offering some great experiences for children, for example enabling families to work, or simply having a break.

There are various videos embedded in the course. These are set not to play automatically to avoid disturbing other learning on the page. To start the video just click the start button. If you have any playback issues with the videos it is probably due to your bandwidth – to improve performance you can turn off other nearby devices.

Once you’ve finished a course, you’ll be given the option to download your certificate straight away.

If you didn’t download it at the time, don’t worry – you can still access it without going through the course again.

To download your certificate:

• Go to your Dashboard.

• Scroll down to find the course you have completed.

• Click the certificate icon next to the course title (just before the word COMPLETE). It looks like this:

Your certificate will open, and you can download or print it from there.

If you are using a mobile device or a tablet, such as an iPad, you might find that some of the forms where you add your own information fill the whole screen. Once you have completed the form just use your browser’s close window button (often a small cross in the top left or right hand side) to close the form window and return to the course page.

Ofsted does not approve specific safeguarding training courses. However, they do expect training providers to have learning outcomes that align with their criteria for safeguarding training, which our training does.

It is also important to ensure that any safeguarding training undertaken reflects Ofsted’s expectations for safeguarding in the provider’s specific setting. So with that in mind Ofsted would expect providers to have under taken training which is in line with their own Safeguarding Policy and relates to the specific setting.
